Writings to the Saints

Colin Thompson's writings to disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.  IE those who have heard the message of repentance and remission of sins in the name of Jesus Christ, have repented, have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins and received the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Here's the current list of open writings to my fellow saints. Please note that I am just another writer and not necessarily correct in many things I may write.
Please use judgment coupled with prayer, trusting the Holy Spirit.

Remember that all of us men are blind guides, and the only true guide is Jesus.

1.Tasting the heavenly Gift - the Real Alternative.

Heb 6:4  Those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

All those of us who have been born from above, of heaven, have been destined to live in the heavenly. To be in the earth, but not of it.

I don't belong to any organisation or distinct group. I don't go to church. I am not free so to do. Neither do I level any criticism at those (the vast majority) of the saints who are currently members of a distinct organisation or group.

Numbers 19:1 Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,  This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD has commanded, saying: Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without blemish, in which there is no defect and on which a yoke has never come. You shall give it to Eleazar the priest, that he may take it outside the camp, and it shall be slaughtered before him; and Eleazar the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, and sprinkle some of its blood seven times directly in front of the tabernacle of meeting. Then the heifer shall be burned in his sight: its hide, its flesh, its blood, and its offal shall be burned. And the priest shall take cedar wood and hyssop and scarlet, and cast them into the midst of the fire burning the heifer. Then the priest shall wash his clothes, he shall bathe in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp; the priest shall be unclean until evening. And the one who burns it shall wash his clothes in water, bathe in water, and shall be unclean until evening. Then a man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and store them outside the camp in a clean place; and they shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for the water of purification; it is for purifying from sin.

26. Calling Out on the name of Jesus.

It may be obvious, but to worship God, we must call on His name. To ask for Gods help, we must call out His name. To give God the praise due to His name, we must use His name.

Psa 20:1  The Lord heed you in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend you. Send you help from the sanctuary, and aid you from Sion. Remember all your sacrifice, and enrich your whole-burnt-offering. Grant you according to your heart, and fulfill all your desire. We will exult in your salvation, and in the name of our God shall we be magnified: the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

27. Being Disciples of Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 31:31  Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD, for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.
This is the promise of the new covenant which God is making with those who are His people -  those who were not His people but now are the people of God.
He is saying that we shall no more teach one another but instead be taught directly by God who is the Spirit. If we are to become pupils we need a teacher. The word disciple simply means a pupil. But we can’t be pupils without a teacher in the same way that no-one is a teacher without pupils. This covenant is fulfilled through the coming of the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the One who baptises in the Holy Spirit and fire.

29. One God Alone.

Mark 12:29  Jesus answered him,  The first of all the commandments is: Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.
Exodus 3:13 Then Moses said to God,
Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me,  ‘What is His name? what shall I say to them? And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. And He said, Thus you shall say to the children of Israel,  I AM has sent me to you.  Moreover God said to Moses,  “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel:  The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.

To us humans, I AM’  is not a very satisfactory name for the God who created everything that is. It may seem a little vague. Actually it is the only name that can accurately describe the One who is everywhere, always, eternal.  God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.  Because God is the Spirit, He has no form or shape that can be reproduced either mentally of physically.

30.    Philistine Ox Cart or Levite Shoulders.

The shoulders of men are not as impressive in the worlds eyes as a carriage. God gives grace to the humble, but opposes the proud. 31.    Truth and Lies.

John 18:37 Pilate therefore said to Him, Are You a king then? Jesus answered, ‘You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.’  Pilate said to Him, ‘What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them,  I find no fault in Him at all.
As a politician, a statesman, a ruler, one of Cesar
s aides, Pilate knew all about lies. He knew about half-truths. He knew about deception. He knew about manipulation and coercion. He probably had lost sight completely of truth. In our world also, it is extremely difficult to go through employment and other avenues of social life without being pressured to lie or compromise the truth in some way. Jesus being the truth set Him apart. If we hear the truth and speak the truth we hear we will also be set apart.

  32.    Hearing.

The disciples of Jesus asked Him to increase their faith. He didnt. If we want our faith to increase there is a way: That way is hearing what Jesus has to say to us.

33.    Repentance - Taking up our cross and following Jesus.
Repentance is not an attractive proposition. In itself it has little to offer. Taking up ones cross, denying oneself is not attractive. Repentance, taking up the cross, is a means to an end. In the above prophesy of Isaiah good things are promised. Good things that are not available except God provides them. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness have no means of obtaining this righteousness themselves. But God is offering it nonetheless. As Jesus prophesied,  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled. Repentance comes with listening to hear what God has to say. Repentance includes regret for sin, seeking the Lord, forsaking our own ways and thoughts, changing direction from away from to towards God. Genuine repentance results in visible demonstration of change of behaviour and attitude.

34.    Unity.

Psalms 133: Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!  It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Here we see unity described as being in community. Being together with lives joined together. The result is the Lord commanding - sending - the blessing, eternal life.

35.    Revelation
Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

36.    Heart, Mind, Mouth
Psalms 19:12 Who can understand his errors?  Cleanse me from secret faults.  Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.  Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.
The psalmist is aware of his faults and errors. These come from the heart. They effect what we think about and what we speak. He asks the Lord for help.

37.   Except the Lord Build the House First in series of three to look at what the apostles taught the new disciples in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost and later in every city.
Exodus 25:8  And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.

There is no suggestion box in heaven! No room for our ideas, plans or schemes. The God Who created all that is has a design that works. Still He calls for human labourers to work alongside Him just so long as they build according to the pattern He shows them. We must not deviate from that pattern which He has designed. Our thoughts, our ways, are not His thoughts or ways. This house has one purpose only - that God may dwell amongst His people.

38.    Forsaking All second in series of three to look at what the apostles taught the new disciples in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost and later in every city.

The Old Testament contains many types and shadows that are realised in fullness in the new covenant which is in the blood of Jesus the Christ, the only begotten Son of God.

If we try to insert any of the shadows and types literally into the new covenant we adulterate or spoil the new covenant.
Every shadow has a counterpart that is an essential part of the good news of the kingdom of God.

 Abandonando Todo

39. Saved.

40. Continuing in the Apostles Doctrine.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
    This was Christ giving instructions to His apostles just before the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was given. On that day when the Holy Spirit came upon Peter he stood up and preached the message of repentance and remission of sins through the name of Jesus Christ resulting in 3000 becoming disciples of Jesus and being added to (built into) the assembly of Christ;

41. Women in the Assembly of Christ.

In any religious institution, as far as I am concerned they can play any role games they like. As to the body of Christ, she is Christ's. Christ is her Head and gives gifts as He chooses to whom He chooses. The working out of these gifts given by Christ is evidence of the calling. The members of the body of Christ do not get to select individuals for those assignments which are exclusively Christ's to give. Acts 20:28

42. Father and Son
In our age we have a history of doctrines about God who is the Father, The Holy Spirit and Jesus the Son of God.  We are not so familiar with Jesus the Son as were the first disciples of Jesus the Christ.
As a result, many may now have a mental picture where the carrot of God the Father, the tomato of Jesus the Son of God and the oil of the Holy Spirit are put in a blender and made into an homogenous soup.  Depending on the various traditions of their religious background they might call this concoction ‘God’, ‘The Trinity’, ‘Father, Son and Holy Ghost’ or if from a ‘Oneness’ background ‘Jesus’.
    God is not a soup!

43. Father in heaven

Even at about 12 years old Jesus of Nazareth was fully focused on His Father in Heaven. He respected his (as was supposed) earthly father and mother but His commitment was to His Heavenly Father.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him (Jesus of Nazareth), to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name (Jesus – I AM Salvation): who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

For God to be our Father, we must be born of God, born from above.

45. Wake up! Wake up!

Isaiah 52:1 Awake, awake!  Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city!  For the uncircumcised and the unclean shall no longer come to you. Shake yourself from the dust, arise; Sit down, O Jerusalem! Loose yourself from the bonds of your neck, O captive daughter of Zion!

Zion sometimes fell asleep with disastrous consequences. Zion is the place where God chose to put His name.  Similarly the Assembly of God that His Son Jesus the anointed king is building is the place where God has put His name. When the church sleeps the enemy comes in.

46.  Hell, Hades and Gehenna.

Those who have been called to be disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ have a great responsibility to warn others to flee from the wrath of God that is coming on all men because of sin.

The title’ Son of Man’ is used in the Old Testament to refer to those designated as prophets, as in this case of Ezekiel. The Lord Jesus Christ used it to refer to Himself in His capacity of the prophet warning the people to repent and flee from the wrath of God that was to come because of sin.

John the Baptist ‘the greatest prophet born to woman’ also came preaching the message of repentance and remission of sins warning his hearers to flee the wrath to come.

47.  The Cup of Christ.

Some people may have the impression that being called to leave all, take up their cross daily and follow after Jesus the Anointed King will result in a wonderful life with many folks respecting and valuing them. It won’t.  Nor is there any opportunity to be someone great, to be raised up above others.

Nor do we get to say who does what and who sits where. That is for the Father to decide.

That is, if we will drink the cup that Jesus drank from and be baptized with the baptism Jesus is baptised with.
